Reproductive Identity: What is it and Why is it Important?

Reproductive identity is a new concept and important addition to standard training on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We live in a major “age of change” when it comes to deciding whether or not to become a parent. Thanks to advances in reproductive medicine and social norms, people of all genders and sexualities can now build their families creatively, yet people across the spectrum are also delaying or opting out altogether. The pandemic and related crises have only brought more questions.

In this monthly provider seminar, Aurélie Athan, Ph.D., will cover the basics of reproductive identity development, how to sensitively explore a person’s reproductive orientation and the potential for unconscious bias. Each reproductive life is a unique story in need of competent support to be fully realized.
